So I purchased an Corsair H80 and they recommend it mounted in the rear of the case and have it pull the cold outside air in and across the radiator. Typical rear fans are set to exhaust the hot air but obviously that would mean to send the hot computer air across my radiator which might affect the efficiency of the CPU cooler so i'm fine with making it an intake.

My question lies in where i should place exhaust fans. I have an NZXT Phantom case. So i will have the two 120mm fans on the back pulling cold air in across the radiator and in the case(only one port though as the two fans sandwich the radiator). I have two 120mm fans (and space for an additional side 200mm fan) also pulling cold air in from the side of the case. Finally I have one 140mm fan at the front also pulling cold air in but that air is going through 4 hard drives in the front cage so probably nothing but hot air by the time the air hits the motherboard.

My idea is to have the two 200mm fans at the top of the case be dedicated to exhaust on the premise of "heat rises". Does this sound like a good idea with everything pulling cold air in and then only have exhaust at the top? Is there any other suggestions on how i should handle this? Thanks for any advice as this will affect the longevity and cooling of my computer.

To give further specs here is my setup minus the already known I7-3770k CPU and NZXT Phantom case:

It is very late and I did not check your entire post, or the response.

As to case cooling, you want overpressure, more air going into the case than exhausting. Among other things, with underpressure air can actually reverse flow through the PSU and cause overheating that leads to early fail.

That is not the only reason for overpresure, however, as I said, it is late here.

@bpstone

Thanks for your time but I wasn't asking for a parts swap. Also the memory you suggested specifies only working with LGA2011 chipsets but then you selected the Z77 board so that would never work. And i'm not sure what justified the 1KW power supply.

@Dan848

Thanks Dan, that explanation helps a bit. Seems like my decision to have everything but the top fans sucking air in seems like a good one then. Unless someone else chimes in i'll have everything suck air into the case except for the two 200mm fans at the top for exhaust. Thanks.

PC Part Picker is not exactly the best site to view or compare specs. Sorry bud. I went on Patriot's website to confirm what you were saying. The PSU was chosen based on the price at the time. It was cheaper than the one you selected and is Bronze Plus rated. Sometimes you can get a good deal on a higher wattage PSU. Yes, it is overkill for most single or even dual GPU configurations. Please do not take offense when we make suggestions. We are merely trying to help you. So I guess you already own the parts seen? Do you have a raid card?
