I have noticed a lot of HDD's that are 1 TB or bigger have a lot of 1 egg reviews on newegg. I want a bigger HDD but the failure rate is like 15 percent! Can anyone advise me about what HDD i should get? What are your thoughts on SSD's?

15% of what? Customers reviewing it? That's not how you do failure rates. I have a 2TB and a 1.5TB and they run just fine.

I find them better for write-few/ready-many operations, at least until their $/GB goes down.

Yes 15% of everyone who rated it gave it 1 egg. I most HDD's over 1 TB have ratings like this. 500 GB HDD's seem to have better ratings but i don't want a small HDD.
Well i was thinking of getting a new drive to use to dual boot linux distros. I already have win7 but the HDD is running out of space so i wanted a new drive to put the linux os's on. On top of that i wanted a bigger drive to put all my music and movies on so i could have it all in one spot so all my operating systems could access my music and movies. Maybe instead of going SSD i'll just get one big drive and have 3 partitions. 1 for ubuntu, 1 for backtrack, and one for music and movies. Then i keep my other drive (the one with win7) the same, except i will move all music and movies off of it.

This doesn't mean the hard drives have a 15% failure rate. This just means 15% of people who chose to actually write a review had a severe issue with it.

Again, I have two drives over 1TB. One's at least two years old. The other just turned one. No problems so far.

Tom's Hardware has a monthly article Best SSDs for the money that may help you out. They also do similar columns for CPUs and Video Cards.

Well HDD are very expensive right now, While SSD are expensive too but a lot faster, I own the SSD OCZ Agility SATA 3, I have installed my windows on that SSD, and my computer is so fast that I really don't wait for any program to load. For example Word is loading withing 1 second, and Photoshop is loading within 2 seconds.

No, it is really not necessary for what you are going to be doing with it.

Seagate Barracuda Green ST1500DL003 $99.99 -> $89.991

the Seagate ST1000DM003 is the fastest 7200 rpm 1tb drive out there. its around 100. also since people with problems are more likly to write a review, the failure rate is not %15. heck, most of the problems are just people who dont know anything messing up, not the drives fault

I heard this from somewhere on the interwebs, but apparently a 10% or more failure rate is grounds for a class action suit.
