So I am building a new computer and ASUS has this qualified vendor list for their ram. I am just going with a slandered 8GB duel channel kit and was wondering if the ram would not work as it is not on their QVL. Anybody know anything about this topic would be greatly appreciated.

QVL means that the manufacturer themselves tested the RAM and are guaranteed for compatibility. It doesn't mean that the those are the only brands/make/models/etc. that work.

It you stick with the man brands, usually you shouldn't have any issues. There are some instances of where G.Skill rams wouldn't get past post, but most of those tended to be surrounding high speed gaming ram and you had to do some tricks to get them to work; but its something you really don't have to worry too much these days.

The only thing I'd say to check is the timing settings; a lot of times the auto settings will set your sticks to a lower and slower timings than what the modules you picked up. I see it happen more often then not on 1600 and up, even from good name brands, but again, it doesn't happen all the time.
