I am about to finally make the jump from a 17" CRT to an LCD. The fact that Dell is offering 25% off just makes it that much easier to do.

I was wondering if you all could give a list of Pro's and Con's of both monitors when compared.

Are they basically made from the same screen but just different aspect ratios?

Help a n00b understand :D Thanks in advance!!

I did a comparison between the two in Dec with the 2005FPW vs. the 2001FP. The 2005FPW is a bit more stressing on a video card in my stesting.

I also did a 2005FPW vs. 2405FPW just today.

Hope it helps you out.

I am also selling my 2005FPW for $475 shipped..

I really dont have any cons about the LCD, I have the 2001fps and I love it. It gread for playing games with no ghosting and I didnt recieve a single dead pixel.

How were you comparing them, using analog or a DVI connection? I skimmed the article but didn't see where you mentioned that. White text on a black background kills my eyes.

Sorry. The 2001FP was on DVI, and the 2005FPW was on analog. I had a BFG 6800GT, it didnt have dual analog.

The 2005FPW and 2405FPW were both on DVI, as I now have an X850XT/PE which has dual DVI.

The compasion was more to show the size between the two, not really a 'which has better quality'.

Thanks for the explanation.

Nemesis, If you've got a Comp USA, Best Buy or Circuit City, go and check out the Sony's with Xbright technology. Comp USA is running a screensaver that will amaze you with the quality of color and appearance. I have a post here with links. There are Acer 3 series monitors, that supposedly have the same technology as the Sony's, but they call it MVA panel technology. Hubby compared the 2, and liked our Sony better due to how the cables sit on ours verses the Acer. I haven't seen the Acer, but if it is the same as the Sony, they are cheaper.

Hey guys, Dell is actually running a real good deal right now (or was over the weekend). I bought the 2005 for $486 after a 25% discount with free shipping.... you have you choice of either of the two monitors. There was a big link over at HardOCP linking the sale and passing along the coupon code.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either monitor, both are very nice, although the 2005 has a slightly smaller viewable screen (less than 10%).
