Does Intel use the same heatsink/fan combo for each processor in the LGA775 socket? For example, I'm buying a Pentium D. But I found a Celeron heatsink/fan combo. Is it the same as the stock heatsink/fan included originally with the Pentium D?

Thanks.

As long as its LGA 775 socket compatible, it should work. There's four main Intel stock LGA 775 coolers during the p4/pent D days.
  • C25897 (Pentium D)
  • C25704 (P4 prescott)
  • C91968 (P4)
  • D34017 (P4/Pentium D)
They all are pretty much perform the same, but have different shaped fans and w/ or w/o a copper core. Just looking at my P4, Pent D, C2D and e2200 celeron 775's boxes, they all pretty much look the same. Although, my CD2 and celeron's have different part numbers. I honestly don't know which has copper bases or not; too lazy to pull them, plus they are still running.

Why are you buying a Pentium D anyhow?

Oh cool. Im just getting it as a temporary replacement until I get a core 2 extreme.
Its for a computer built for recording and I just need something to suffice.

you do realize these chips are quite a few years old now. Unless you have some outdated tech that can't be used in newer machines, spending money for a Pent D or C2 extreme is well... wasteful.
