These are the components that i will be using for my new computer

MotherBoard: ASUS A8V-E Duluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200 Socket 939
Video Card: eVGA Geforce 6600 GT
Memory: 1 Gb Corsair XMS DDR400
HD: Maxtor DiamondMax 9 80 GB (SATA 150)

I have two questions about my components. The first is what power supply should i buy? The reason i ask is because the motherboard i chose has a 24 pin power connector. Is it ok to use the 20 pin to 24 pin adapter. The power supply i was thinking about getting was the "ULTRA X-Connect" and using the 20 pin to 24 pin adapter with it. Do you think i should buy a power supply with a 24 pin connector?

The second question i have is, Will my video card have any problems because it supports SLI but not hooked up with another card? In other words will SLI cards work by themselves. [/list]

Why are you even mentioning an X-Connect? Scored a 4... it should have turned on something back there.

Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on an Enermax 420 and the Cooler Master 450 for a possible future rig. Both have the main connector as a 24-pin ATX. Personally, I would choose the Enermax because of beefier lines and the trusted name.

If you want something with a bit more power, like an Antec EPS True550 or a NeoPower, there's nothing stopping you.

And yes, a single SLI capable card will work by itself.

SLI cards and motherboards will work perfectly with only one videocard.

brands such as antec, enermax, pcpowercooling, and OCZ are all good brands to buy. very reliable and performance are great. ive been using antec for a while now and ive been really happy with their power supplies as well as their cases.

Aside from the 24 pin connector for the mobo, you're also gonna need a 6 pin connector for your video card I beleive, I would get the Antec NeoPower, it's modular like the Ultra-X and you can get it with sleeved UV calbes for free at frozencpu.com. Good luck on the build.

I've got the OCZ PowerStream 520W and I'm extremely happy with it. It's got adjustable +3.3v, +5v and +12v rails and more connectors than you can shake a stick at. Only complaint was cabling - I had a hell of a time trying to stow all the ones I had left over. And it's BTX compatible.
