Hey all,
I've been anxiously awaiting an AMD PCI E board. Now that they're coming out it seems like they are all set up for SLi. I did find a board with a single slot but was wondering your thoughts. In all honesty I can't see myself bucking up for two video cards, rather just putting in a newer single card when upgrade day comes. What's up with the SLi fever? I realize the price on 6800's will drop, but only when the next gen come out. Am I the only one that thinks one card is enough?

Yes 1 is enough. Its just really kick ass to have two and nearly double the preformance. I mean come on, its cool. 8)

1 6800gt is enoug. 1 6800ultra is cool and a bit over kill. 2x6800s are overkill, cool and worth it IMO. you wont have to upgrade ur vid card for a while then.

i think SLI will die in favor of dual core solutions.

its cool and all but, i equate SLI with mobo jumpers

now there are less to none jumpers on mobos and video card makers will realize nobody will get a server chip and 2 $500+ cards just to do SLI and play doom 3

takes needed pci-e slots and its a waste of power.

You can just get a nice nforce4 ultra board. There are a few nice ones around. DFI, MSI, gigabyte seem to have nice ones.

If you really care about SLi and saving money, then get an AGP board for now, since ATI is working on their own version of SLi which will supposedly be superior, or you could go half way as Hairpuller said and get an NF4 Ultra board.

Actually I DON'T want SLi. I'm looking at single PCI E for AMD but the pickings seem slim compared to the SLi boards.

This is true. And I have considered it but I'm trying to save a little. I've also considered that I could put in another vid card after prices drop. Ahh so many choices!
