I want to build a home server,it's gonna run LIBRAnet 3 Linux, which is in beta testing now.

I'd like to know if I should go with an Opteron (Single Chip) or an Athlon 64.

As I understand it, the Athlon 64 allows for DDR2, non-registered memory.

The Opteron requires non-DDR/Registered memory.

If that info. is correct, then the opteron >May< Be the slower system.

Then again, I could get a dual-chip Opteron, run it single-chip, and get the other CPU later.

I'm beside myself on this, nobody I can find compares the Athlon64 Motherboards to the Opteron's.

Thanks.

To clear things up, the A64/Opteron line both use DDR. The rest of your understanding is correct. :)

I have no experience with servers and whatnot, so I'll leave that up to someone else. :P
