Maximum PC

well, i've got most of the components down for my new rig i want to build(stealing parts from this rig too ) but i have a few questions.

Does anyone know about mushkin ram? I was looking, and there's a gig of it for ~140 on newegg. Is it quality ram?

Also, I'm debating between a 6600GT and a 9600 pro. will there be a HUGE noticably difference? or just a small fps difference?

the setup is

AMD Athlon 3200+ XP(stealing from this computer)
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
120 GB hard drive(stealing from this computer)
Thermaltake Soprano case
Antec 480W PS

The primary use of this rig would be gaming. secondary and tertiary uses would be school work and internet surfing.

There is a huge differnce, The Geforce 6600 GTs are WAY WAY WAY better.

I'm an ATI fanboy, and the 6600GT is a MUCH better card

anyone got anymore info on the mushkin ram?

i've got a friend, who tells me the bad timings on the value mushkin ram can cause BSOD's. any info on this? the mushkin ram i was looking into getting is this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 299&depa=0

Your friend is 100% wrong. Higher timings have nothing to do with BSODs. Tight timed RAM is geared at the enthusiast and/or overclocker. On a 3200+ XP, we can rule out overclocking.

In fact, that Mushkin RAM you linked is one of the better Value lines available. The timings are a very respectable 2.5-3-3, whereas it's not uncommon to see 3-4-4 when dealing with value sticks.

To put it simply, Mushkin is one of the top RAM vendors and those are some of the better low priced sticks available.

i'll put in a good word for mushkin right now, i'm running it and it rocks.

i have the same mobo as you and i am using mushkin ram pc3200 on my machine and my system is very stable. also, the geforce 6600GT is way better than the 9600pro. get it.
