I had ordered an fx-55 and was told it would take a month to get here. My local shop has an fx-53, and so I bought it. My question is should I overclock it or wait for the 55. This is my first post so please be patient with me , Thanks.

ummm... if you have the money to buy 2 FXs just like that, maybe you should wait for the FX55, and OC the hell out of it with water cooling or even phase change cooling

Im sorry, but i didnt clarify. They havent ordered the 55 yet because im not sure what i want to do. Im impatient and am thinking of just gettn the 53 but im not sure about overclocking. Ive never done it and I dont think my local shop will do it for fear of warranty breach.

Doesnt the asus deluxe have built in over clocking features. I should be able to oc my 53 to 55 specs- right? Ive never oc,ed before but it looks like the asus board makes it easy and reliable. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

With the FX-53, you can easily flip up the multiplier to mimic the FX-55's. A FX-53 processor has a stock multiplier of 12, while the FX-55 has a stock multiplier of 13. Change it to 13 and voila! Instant FX-53 @ 2.6GHz.

Alternatively, you can switch the FSB to 217MHz, but it would require high performance RAM and/or other complications.

In either case, you can dig through your BIOS to find the options. The Asus BIOS, I've heard, isn't lenient for overclockers, but I think it should be good enough to perform a multiplier switch. I recommend against the program as you're allowing software to control the speed of your processor - bad.

*Disclaimer: Overclocking voids your warranty (if you have one)*

I'll agree with OCnovice, IF the 53 comes at a much lower pricetag. I'd hate to spend a lot-o-cash on a 53 if the 55 is only a tad more. On average, the 53 should be $200 less. If so, do it.

Thanks to everyone for the help!! I just called my local shop and they said theyve got a line on an fx-55 for the same price as the fx-53. They said they would sell it to me for 895.00. They said it should be here with the rest of hardware ive ordered. :D
