what games do you play? What's the rest of your system specs? What's your monitor's resolution?

As long as you have the PSU, for the money, you will get a lot of bang from this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102858

A pair of GTX460s would be your best option then.

A GTX 260 is 10% faster than the card linked to above.

Yeah, I 'd say you have plenty of headroom. I have always been Nvidia, but the MOBO in my Gateway is only Crossfire ceritified. I have an Nvidia 9800GT in this eMachines I am on, but decided not to take it any further. I would say that you have a pretty wide open field with that PSU as you have plenty of headroom. The one thing that concerns me about the 470's and 480's is the reports of the heat issue with those things. I haven't heard anything regarding that and the 460 though and I haven't had the time to do the research I'd like to do.

heat wouldnt be an issue for me since i have a high airflow case. I really like the 470 and 480, but the 480 seems way too overpriced. does anyone agree?

What brand? wattage isn't everything, especially if not from a good manufacturer.

Yeah, what you have on the rails is more important. I have seen high wattage PSU's with little on the rails, which make them undesirable. One of the reasons I like Corsair PSUs.

Have a look at the links below. They give some really good, easy to read, comparative data for all the major cards. The Anand reviews also give the data for all the major cards in single card set up's in addition to dual card. Note that the second Anand review for the 470, I provided as the 1st didn't have data for the 5850 in XFire. I have to agree that the 460 is right there on a dollar basis. Including running it in SLI to bring it into line with the high end cards. Note that I am referring to the 1 gig version of the 460 not the 768 MB version.
