And what is your resolution of choice/use? What games. It may very well be that a 120 card would suit you better if say you are trying to play crysis at 1024x768.

Yes, for your price range that is the best option.

Them 9800GT's got really hot though. That also means loud in most cases.

I had a WoW nut living in the house, and he gamed really well on a really dated XFX passive 7600GS. I myself am still stuck on Rise of Nations and took the His 4670 ($80) to work and it's been great. It didn't fit the weird Dell layout, took off the fan, run it passive, and it's never given one hiccup.

I favor the 4670 over the 9800GT. You're not out for huge FEAR or Crysis framerates, you're looking for a good inexpensive card to run WoW. It'll do it, and shouldn't ever make a peep.

Your Joking right? Please tell me your joking. That thing doesn't have the power to run any DX11 game with a decent res or setting.

OP said he does not need anything better.

i was not joking. i dont run benchmarks and have no clue which the "hot" videocard is. what i see is that it is 1gb 128 bit dx11. you will have to excuse my ignorance of such matters. i rebuild my pc every 4-5 yrs and i am as far away from the cutting edge as i can get most times.

i am rebuilding my pc right now and here are the parts i bought:
asus M4A78T-E mobo AM3
AMD phenom II x4 955 black
4gb kingstonvalueRAM
HIS ATI radeon HD 5550 1gb 128bit

you can laugh at that set up if you like but it will work for everything i will do for the next few years and if i need to upgrade i easily can.

welaf,

Logan was correct in his meaning, the HD 5550 will get very low frames per second in DX11 games. If you ever find DX11 games tested with the HD 5550 please post the links here so everyone will be able to see how slow the video card is.

As to your build, I will take your word for it that it will do everything you want it to and will make you happy. However the HD 5550 will perform very poorly in DX11 games and I do not think you plan to play them with the HD 5550.

Here are some gaming results from low end video cards, however, they are not DX11 games.

are age of empire and WoW dx11 games? (i am not trying to be argumentative i actually do not know) OP states those are the games they have.

i originally was going to get the 4670 but i was told to get a dx11 card because win7 64 pro is dx11. i was on a budget so i thought that was the best card i could have gotten within my budget. if it turns out that this card is too slow for my needs i can easily get a new one in a few months. two things i have is time and patience.

Win7 is both DX10 and 11. Also, like other MMOs, WoW should be getting a graphics upgrade eventually. DDO, the game I play, has gone from DX9 to 10 and will soon be adding DX11 code to its game engine code paths. I can not phathom why Blizzard wouldn't upgrade WoW since it has gone from DX8 to 9 and I believe 10 thus far. Hasn't anyone ever wondered why it will run on GF2s and Higher. Although not that great but it will run.

MMO= Lots of people playing online at the same time.

DDO = Dungeons and Dragons Online, a game

Note that DX11 games will be backward compatible with DX10 and DX9. WoW is not DX11 and may not be for a very long time. Blizzard makes an effort to make the game playable for people with lower end hardware, such as an HD 5670, which starts at $85. at newegg
