I have a dilema. I run the Folding@Home GPU2 console client only on the weekends because of power concerns (I also run 3 cpu console clients[weekends only]). My current card is the GTX 260 (216 cores). I've been reading rave reviews on the Radeon HD 5770. Is there any major difference between the two? I know the GTX 260 has 2 6pin power connectors whereas the 5770 has one. Also having true HDMI out would be very nice, instead of using an adapter.

A GTX 260 folds way better than a 5770, and also is around 10% faster in games. A 5770 does use less power, but I don't think its worth it really.

A fully loaded folding machine running 24/7 should be $25 a month, or under a dollar a day. Getting the most bang for the buck (ppd per dollar) would mean sticking with your 260 IMO. The 5770 doesn't even fold without switches, and when it does it's a 1/4 of what the 260 will spit out.

If you're done with folding, it's probably a good purchase. But then again, it's $180, or 7 months of folding 24/7 with your current card. So it seems like you're robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Pthhhhh...with interest to BUY based on the advice given. Seldom do folks wonder if something is better without any interest in upgrading.

If it has to do with purchasing decisions, this is the place to be. Back to the question vise memberating...cool.

In fact I was NOT asking what if any I should buy. I was merely asking if "card A" was better than "card B" for what I plan to do with it. Hence the reason why I put such a video card question into the proper "video card valley" forum.
