What will you be using for the operating system? You will NOT be able to use the disks that came with your Gateway.
I will be using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-BIT, i would def. not want to use the gateway discs, the system originally came with windows vista Home prem. 64BIT SP1. the os that came with it was good if you don't like to touch your computer, it was fast the first few days but then became very slow, as has this computer after the first 3 months. I've been using windows 7 since the Beta was first released and am in no hurry to want to move back to Vista, maybe XP but would prefer not to.
On another Note....
I've recently had thoughts of going to a MAC, Because i can run windows and I like OS X for day to day tasks. But at that i think it is a very expensive investment, especially when they change the design and specs of there computers too often and don't offer expandability except in hard drive, memory and operating systems. Some may think this bad or unethical, but i tried OS x on my current system and like it cause its fast, easy to use, good for producing movies. the only thing that i hate about it, is that its not a gaming OS. playing the sims 3 on it i saw my frame rates drop from 85-90 on high settings to medium settings of 12-32 maybe 60 for a split second. this maybe because its not running on an actual mac and this video card isn't that great?
On the PC side....
I'm not sure about going with an ATI Video Card Because of the experience i've had with them, also i was doing a lot of comparing last night and this morning and Intel systems are always more expensive, i even put i blu-ray burner in one AMD Config and it was way Less (About $200 less then an similar Intel Core i5 System. Also should i go for an dual core, or a quad-core? I don't see in my current system much of an improvement from my last system which was an HP pavilion a735w with an single core 2.10GHZ AMD Athlon XP and 1gb ram. That even runs windows 7 32bit just fine! also should i go with a 16GB Max ram config or a 8GB Config? I know this is a lot to read but i had a few questions i though up of last night. Also has anyone noticed that the computing world is becoming very confusing in terms of what is good, operating system wise and hardware wise? Thanks for all the responses and help!
