couple of years ago I built a C2D machine/Abit board, 4GB's Ram with EVGA GTS 512-8800. 150 Raptor for OS, 400GB WD for data (pics/mp3s).

I'm looking to build another box for Windows 7 now. (I get enterprise for $10 bucks thorough my University's site license)

Needless to say, I used to be hip on all the current technologies...but the video and mobo chipsets have evolved quite a bit...need advise there.

Not sure I wanna a lay down for a 350+ video card....what might some good choices for a 150-200 dollar card be?

I'm considering quad core, and also need a mobo...I like EVGA (and Intel and would like onboard RAID1).

I've got this case picked out and am pretty sure I'm doing this...
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6811119160

I'll use it to burn video and play games, i.e. COD-MW, BF2, Crysis.

Any suggestions for a fellow hardcore techie?

Thanks!!

Not worried about Key/mouse...I'll figure that out...

I'd say $1500 or so...although not a huge concern, just don't want a $400 video card...(again).

I like my current Corsair modular supply, will probably get another...think it's 600w.

See my edit above.

I'd say a 5850 is worth spending the money on if you are gaming especially on cod games once you get above 250 fps(I think thats the number) you can jump a little higher, run a little faster, and the guns fire smoother/better. If this is a gaming pc the video card should be what you spend the most on. But if you really don't want to the 4890 is the best because it is the most powerful for under $200.

Like Danthrax said, the 4890 is the most powerful card under $200.

Also, last time I purchased NVidia was on top, appears ATI may have pulled ahead?

IOW, how does the 5850 compare to the 285?

You could also see if you can find a cheap g92 core 8800 and stick it in there. My dual 8800 rig plays CoD4 at max settings at 1920X1080. I think the fps was at 90-100ish. I almost went out and bought a 5850 but 1 last Craigslist search found me a 8800gts for 30$.
