Hey guys, I have a question RE: sli. Though I've been a pc hobbiest for a few years now I have never dealt with SLI or Crossfire as I'm not much of a gamer, I basically just build and upgrade for "bragging rights" to mess with my nephew. I'll list my system specs here for your perusal:

GByte GA-990FXA-UD3
AMD FX-8120 at stock(3.1Ghz)
G-Skill PC1800(?) 8GB ram
Zalman CNSP 110mm cpu cooler
EVGA GTX 680 SC+ 2GB

So here's my question; I know that this particular gpu is no longer in stock, but there are newer 680's that are faster. Can I use the older gpu with one of the newer ones without prob's, are will i have to have 2 of the same vintage?
I'm also doubling the mem to 16GB. Are there any other parts that may need an upgrade? Am open to all thoughts and suggestions.

I believe any GTX 680 will do, but the faster card will slow itself down to match the slower card.

Thanks for that verification, I figured that would be the case but wasn't sure. Now when I bought this card a year or two ago it was believed to be the sweet spot between cost and performance, how far if any has it fallen? Just a question. Thanks again for the response.

Oh wait, sorry. It has to be a GTX 680 of the same memory size.

So I'll have to find one with 2GB memory? are they still available? Maybe at NewEgg? I'll take a look. Thanks

One other thing, does it matter if one is PCI 3.0 and the other 2.0? Will they just run at the slower speed?

PCI Express version doesn't really matter because they don't start choking until you're going below a x4 PCIe 2.0 slot.
