Hey, guys. I've been contemplating becoming a Folder since the GPU version was released. I've got an 8800GTX I figured I could put to some good use besides playing Warhead. :D

I've got the client installed, but aside from that am completely clueless...this seems to be a lot more than I thought it was. I read the guide, but am still kinda lost. Do I need to register on the Stanford site? Is that where I enter my team #? I'm excited to help out the MPC team, but need a good push in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

You do not need to register to the Stanford site to participate. Have you installed the graphical client? If so, right click the icon on your taskbar and select "configuration". From here you can enter your username and MaxPc's team number.

Thanks...got it up and running.

How do I get a passkey? Is it even necessary?

It's not necessary, and I don't personally use one. I'm unsure how the other forum members feel about passkeys though.

Hope to see your folding name on the New folders in 4 digits listing in a few days.

You have the folding part down now.
The next important part is having fun.

Got it.

Do I have to finish one WU before I can post my info on Extreme Overclockers?

Sorry for the salvo of questions...I've always been good at asking them.

When you send your WU back to Stanford, they collect them up and make them available to third party stats providers.
Within approximately 3 hours, or less, your points will appear on the EOC stats and you can start watching them grow and having an influence on the teams progress also.

What is a collective?

A collective is a group of folks folding together under one name.

Spider Monkey is a collective, subgroup or subteam of folders.

You have a lot to learn and it's part of the fun in the first few weeks.

It all comes together and makes sense around that timeframe.

Except for the monkies, they never make total sense, no matter how long you are here.

8800 GTS would definitely be more points folding than any SMP client would give you.

Welcome HellFighter_06

We are all very glad to have you with us.

What client did you start folding with?
What hardware are you running?

We have a contest running right now and you should make yourself eligible to enter very soon.

There is a lot to have fun learning about the first few weeks.

When you get tired of learning folding details, take a break and have some fun.

Read some spotlights - Thread of all threads, top of forum.
Read the joke thread, add one if you like.
Dig into that contest and get comfortable and make sure your entry is reflected in the second post.
The contest is called the Winter Wonderland.
The thread is up high all the time lately.
Read some congrats.
Get to know the folks.

Only two things we do around here.

Fold and have fun.
I hope you have time for both -G

If you respond on the main forum more folks will see your post and then stand back and watch the welcomes come in from now through tomorrow morning.
