The laptop is a Centrino Duo 2.0gz 1gig ram, Black tower is a Athlon X2 4200 @2.6gz with 3gigs of ram, and the silver tower is running ubuntu on Athlon 3200 with 1gig of ram. Im thinking about running a X1950PRO in that considering the proc sucks

I think I will post a couple more pics tonight if my buddy sends me some pics of his folding farm. (we work together) :D

It's the only part of my folding farm that's all together.

4 rack mount and 1 tower (on top). Everything else is PC's spread out. way to many pics. These are all active servers, not dedicated ones so I only use half the cores available. I need the rest of the power for everything else.

Very loud. They are in my "server" room. We can still hear them a little through the steel door. One of these days I'll try some soundproofing.

I've allways been facinated by rack mountable stuff, and I decided to either build my own using instructions from the internet or get a real server rack. Well, I found a full 42u rack for super cheap and couldn't resist. What better use for the servers I'd be getting than Folding@home! That is, since I'm not using the serers for webhosting or anything of that nature, they are dedicated folding machines...allbeit slow ones.

My Live Journal community(Server Rack Owners Club of LJ) hasn't gotten any bites, really, but it has more info about my rack/servers and more pics. I also have "l33t sigs" that display info about each, but I don't want to make a huge sig to attach to every post~ I'll just post them here to show:

By the way, Sneezy, nice half rack and Power Edges...looks like much more recent stuff than I'm dealing with...heh. If you are an LJ user, feel free to join my community(or anyone elce with racks...or that want racks...or make substitutes for racks). wireedm's setup of what appears to be MBs and PSUs on plastic shelves is just nuts in the best way, and welcome also xD. Sorry if the post is long.

You mean server racks or dedicated rigs in general? I run all my computers 24/7. My dedicated rigs i restart about once every week depending on updates and programing :P

Aw. I don't think my parents want me to load anything like this on their office servers. :( It would kill their productivity.

Actually, it probably wouldn't. F@H is a dynamic load program. I.E., it runs the proc 100% until you need it, relinquishing processor clock cycles to the program you wish to run until you shut the program down, then resumes folding. That's the simple explanation.

In my case, yea. Plus mine are dedicated, so they run all 4 cores at 100% all the time...that is until the power flashes. A UPS unit is definatly next on the list, heh.

It must be done correctly for the situation.

Each person making these decisions might approach the situation differently.

Mission critical - not at all.
Heavy cpu usage - not at all or scheduled to run only on off hours.
No extra memory - not at all.
Medium to heavy load - one might lower the cpu demand.
Use appropriate client for the power and hours available.
Some single core WUs are better than smp WUs that don't make deadlines.

No one should put FAH on any machine without permission.

It's best to have a tech involved who is responsible, cooperative and knowledgeable about all of the above considerations and possibly others.
I just read about these things in threads, all my machines are at home and run 24/7 at 100%.
