For those people that want to jump onto the dual core bandwagon, but can't afford to get a new Core 2 Duo and a new motherboard. Look at the following:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130067
MSI K9N6PGM-F Socket AM2 motherboard $73.13

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103735
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ $109

So for $182.13, you would be able to get a dual core and a new motherboard (provided you have DDR2 memory) for the same price as an E6300.

Also for the people sticking with Socket 939, Newegg has once again got more 3800 X2's.

Hopefully this post will help someone get onto the dual core road.

Might I suggest a 65nm Brisbane to couple with the MSI board. It's slightly cheaper and may overclock better.

I'm buying one today and one tommorow, due to the 1 per customer limit. I've already got the Asrock mobos, so if you buy the combo, sell the included mobo, that brings the processor cost down to around 100 bucks a piece!!! Can't beat that!!!

Did you mean to link the same card twice? Or is there another deal I should be looking for? :)

After $50 Mail-in-Rebate Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit - $188.99 + $4.99 S&H - $50 MIR = $143.98

Seems that some motherboards are having trouble with this RAM though, so double check the forums of your motherboard manufacturer to see if there are problems with your motherboard before purchase.

Some of the boards I've seen listed with various "issues"* are:
Abit AB9 Pro
ASUS M2N-SLI

*some report that motherboards need to be able to run the RAM at 2.2V in order to get spec'd timings.

Not exactly Folding hardware, but if you need to keep data safe and want a RAID card on the cheap: Newegg.

Won't last forever. I ordered mine today.

Not as good timing wise as the OCZ above, but ony $80.99 with free shipping & NO Mail-In-Rebate to wait for!
A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit - 5-5-5-18 1.8V

Also at newegg... CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit 4-4-4-12 2.1V $147.99 + free shipping - $50 M-I-R = $97.99

I hope this is a sign (without the mail-in-rebates) of things to come for the future of RAM prices 8)
