Since I just starting folding@home, I was curios to see how long it takes to finish a WU and what is a typical score per WU. While scrolling through the team scores, I came across Dan O'Connel who received 249.0 points for a single WU! I guess these numbers would be more typical of the current scores?

437.9 for 3 WU's
552.8 for 5 WU's
671.0 for 8 WU's
708.0 for 9 WU's

About how long does it take to do a single WU (briefly list your specs - I don't care about your mouse driver!)

Yeah, that's me!

I just wrote a post about it. Took me two nights and three days to finish that damn thing.

I'm running an AMD Barton 2500+ oc'ed by 100mhz, Abit NF7-S mobo, and 512mb DDR 400 @ 350 (gotta get this comp to cool down!).

Yeah, I would overclock it to an AMD Barton 3200+ and DDR 400, but I can't keep this thing cool enough till I get an airconditioner and better airflow in my case. Damn mainboard temp got up to 104F today! It's at 31C right now, but that's with the side open, a USB fan blowing in, and the window open to 19C outside temps. My CPU temp is stable at 47.5C right now, but that changes with the weather. Today it got up to 57C at the warmest time of the day, with the side closed.

Anyway, yeah, that was one hell of a lot of time spent on a WU. I'm already at 30% for my next WU. This one should be done tonight. I think I'll let her fold over the night, what the heck.

I thought this was you. Do you have two usernames over there?

The wu on my athlon system is going to run about 30 hrs (assuming the percentage complete is consistent throughout the entire wu). Do you think that will fetch me about 50 points?

Should fetch you more than 50, I would imagine.

My system was runnig for about 50-60hrs and I got 249.

By the way, I just finished a 12hr WU. I'm awiating the stats page to update.

Oh, and this is my only username at F@H.

Oh, I just clicked on that "you" link. No, that's not me, not that I don't wish it was..

Belboz was a funny little wizard in the greatest text only RPG of all time. I think I met him in part II or part III. The year it all started was the year of my birth, 1980.

Can you guess the name of the game?

Dan O.

Oh yeah, looks like this one will only be about 13.5 hrs.

Of all people I thought you would be doing Seti and not Folding!!

I have about 350 Seti WU's to give away - I have done enough work for them for now.

If anyone is interested

Well, It looks like I got 47pts for that 12hr WU. Now at 296 :)

That also means I moved up the ranks by about 130 places. :)

Now at 24% for my third WU.

BTW, I now have this AMD Barton 2500+ stable at 3200+ with DDR 400.
Before I was only 100mhz oc'ed, and my RAM was at DDR 350.

I was going to say Zork. I only played some of the first game, and I don't remember any wizards. Hmm. Well, Wizardry could definitely have a wizard in the 2nd ed.*, but it wasn't 'text only' and the original came out in 1981 according to my box. I'll have to go with Ultima - I can't think of any more text games that are that old.

*In the 1st ed., the evil wizards name is Werdna and the valiant King (iirc) is Trebor - the authors names are Andrew and Robert! Werdna is a pretty tough bitch too. Someday, if a Yr'ral is kicking your ass in a game, you'll know who to blame. :)

Haha.... I have done Seti in the past. I feel our society needs both a short-term and long-term strategy. Short-term, folding will hopefully eradicate a few diseases and allow me to live long enough that we might actually have some success with the other one. :)

Ok, we need more than two people responding to the poll for this to be meaningful!

And I just thought of something. Yesterday, I told one of the student assistants to stop using IE because of the security holes. I installed folding on her computer, the console version, after I left work yesterday. She's going to think she dl'ed a virus for sure now!

Lol!

Although, I don't notice a huge difference in basic operations with it on. It's when I start doing CPU intensive stuff that I notice a difference.

Although, I'm now running the equivelant of 3.2ghz

Yeah - she's a real computer noob. This isn't going to be good. :)

Hopefully, those computers haven't locked up since they're all SFF!

Hey, what about the game?

Oh, right!

The name of the game was Zork. There was first a trilogy, then a few more Zork text adventures. I only played the trilogy. Then there were graphical games, but they never got good till Nemisis. The last and final Zork game was put out by the company bought the company that owned Zork, and it was called Zork, Grand Inquizitor. That's how I got hooked on Zork, I played ZGI for a long time before I finnaly beat it.

Anyway, go download Zork, the great Underground Empire at this link

My first unit finally showed up in the stats - 239.0 points. This puts me at #1971 on the team list. It seems like it takes a long time for them to update the stats info. Both p4's had to finish their wu's by now, the xp finished about an hour ago, and the P2 (i now think the lab comps are p2's and not p3's - I'll have to check next week) is probably going to finish by friday. Damn slow machine.

How many wu's do you have done now? What rank? I have 6 WU's done for 816 points (136 avg). My rank is now 1350. With this setup, I should earn about 2000 points / week, which means that I won't break into the top 100 for another 15 weeks! I need more horsepower!

Leave a link to your rank info..... I always forget the names over there.

Last week I finshed two WU's that were both worth about 250 points.

Both WU's were ran on my Alienware notebook w/ 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 HT.

It took roughly two and a half days for both of them to be run at the same time.
