I strongly recommend making a drive backup image first. I tried updating my drivers and when I rebooted, my rig hung on the "Starting Windows" screen. When rebooting again, I got the option to do a repair install. No thanks. Macrium Reflect to the rescue. I've seen boot problems on other forums as well with these new drivers.

I think Gero needs to see this, he's got a better card than I do, but since my update, I've been right with, or above him.

I was gonna post your name with this in a new topic so you saw it, but I knew you would get around to it :)

Yea, I liked hanging with you PPD wise, but if you get more points, its better for all of us!

Just splurged on an R9 290 with the windforce 3x cooler and I installed 14.4 when i put it in. FAHClient says i'm getting 188K PPD on my current core 17 WU (at least for as long as i keep stress testing, will probably have to put it to rest until after air conditioning season!!)

:D

My PPD looks to have increased a bit. I hope that I can keep it going decently.

My poor ECC DIMMs are loving the cold. Benn running them pretty hot and hard. Sometimes I think they would already be problems from being run out of spec (bclock OC, no way to slow down the RAM), but the error correcting saves them (well, the data). I don't know.

Looks like the PPD the client showed me when I posted that originally was a bit of a fluke. Still pulling 118k from the GPU this morning, combined with smp:6 on my 4770k and i'm still pulling in more points than I ever have. and yes it's cold (for now anyway)!! :D

Yep. Still stock clocks too, for now :) Only hitting 68C under load with the 3 fan cooler and my basement still being quite chilly thanks to the weather cooperating at the moment

I've currently got a 290x folding for about 200k (202563 on a 13001). I got it for $385, so I feel I got pretty good value for the money. Seeing this thing do 200k, and my i7 3770k doing about 15k, is pretty sad though :(.

Hey Deathlokke

Man, I feel ya - unfortunately, my only i7 is running in a laptop, so the vid card isn't doing much better.

I'd be a pig in sheet at 200K!

20,000 PPD? Drool, drool, drool. I've got an old server with 2 Xeon E5410's, so it's roughly comparable to an i7, but with much greater power consumed. I wish I had been Folding when that thing would have qualified for -bigadv.

You definitely did! I got my windforce 290 (non-x) for $380, but theoretically I'll be getting a $20 rebate thing someday...They actually emailed me about it to say it was approved, so that's something at least. Of course now they've got the card for $10 less and the rebate is still active. d'oh!

And the i7s do a marvelous job of feeding Hawaii for games, but they sure do take a whoopin' in FAH

Aren't there new drivers out again (or in some Beta)?

I'm contemplating taking the summer off, selling my current card and/or rig, and coming back in fall or winter with a shiny new Nvidia or AMD card (whatever will get me the best PPD/Watt when I decide to pull the trigger. If I go the whole rig route, I'd likely look for something in an i5 range. Since CPUs don't do much now for folding when compared to GPUs, I'll get a nice $300-$400 GPU to handle the folding and likely leave the CPU fold as well, but make sure that the GPU is fed as a priority. I may not come back at all. $30-40 per month saved on the electricity would go a long way in lowering my bills over the long haul. Just some contemplation. Not changing anything for at least a couple of weeks.
