I'll start this one off....

I found my old notes and I completed my 1st work unit on 12/4/05.

It was worth 46 points :!:

Anyone else remember when they started?

My first WU was credited Jan 10, 2006, no idea what or how much it was worth. My first post in this forum was actually to help a fellow folder just two days later  seems like decades ago...

My first WU was back in Aug of 2009, on a AMD Athlon 64 FX55 (I think??). My first AMD CPU

Wanted to see how far I could take it, overclocked it and set it to fold. Had no idea that meant run it at 100% until I stopped it. Got excited when I saw my first points and let it fold. Never thought about cooling, LOL

Went out of town for the weekend, 3 days and let it run. When I got home went into my computer room and it must have been 100+ degrees (Mind you this is in my home in August I live in Phoenix) When I left town in Aug. I leave the AC at 85 when I am gone, but closed the door on the computer room (Stupid)

Anyway shut the computer down ASAP because of the heat, when I rebooted it had errors and never worked correctly again. The CPU was fine but had roasted the memory on the MB. I was still able to use the computer but only one memory slot worked.

E
BTW I think I had a few hundred points, but because of the hardware death I did not fold again for awhile, I needed to learn more, most important cooling.

It was back in November 2005 for me but I don't remember exactly how many points it was worth. I do remember it was on a very old (now) AMD Sempron based system.

Unfortunately now I'm so far out of the game and haven't upgraded in quite some time so no longer doing anything.

According to my EOC stats page.. I completed my first work unit on May 24, 2004. (wow.. am I rapidly approaching TEN Years of Folding @ Home?)

My first Folding system was a P4 2.8GHz tower - cooking away on those proteins 24/7. Work units back then, seemed to take forever to finish and yielded anywhere from 23 to 242 points.

Within a few months I had Five systems Folding.

Work units were completed so slowly in those days, that I was actually keeping Paper charts of my progress.

To give another sense of how long ago this was... the work unit numbers were still in the Hundreds! P0216 / P0543 / P0729

I was such a tard when I started folding. G helped me out quite a bit. My first was in Oct 2009 and I was folding on an AMD FX60 with a 7800GTX. That little rig folded pretty well at the time. fun times. Thanks for the memories.

there is no real way to tell for the old timers, I have two names that I have folded under, and both say the same date for a start date, 1-1-04, but if I remember correctly there are no start dates before that. reason is, that is when EOC updated its stats to it's more or less, current version, and the start dates are only accurate for people that started after that date.

If I remember, eoc stats leased server space, and had provider problems and lost all the earlier stats and records.

I started before, but do not know exactly when. single point work units were the norm.

eoc does use your user number in the stats, which I think is original to joining the stanford folding team. mine is 16,884, the founder of the team, is 16,327 and there are still active, folders here that have been folding here longer than I have, phred15 for one. willis, mutsu, KJV, softailguy, michael Zarka, kingfish, stonge, ralph bates, are just the oldtimers on page one.

Sometime in Sept 2009. Used a P4 single core for a few hundred points.

Hey g.m.,

My start date as EOC also shows 1-1-04. I'm pretty sure I started before then too, but I'm wondering about the user number bit.... Mine is 16393, which would put me being active before you, and I'm almost certain that you've been at it far longer than I have.

I think I started folding Tinker WU's using an OC'd AMD K6-III+ 400 MHz that I had running at 550 MHz.... had a merry time with QMD's later when I was running a bunch of P4 3.0 hair dryers...

Those were the days.

whats up monster, yeah you got me thinking. since I posted I decided to check if my original folding name had the same user number as my present user name. I did not realize that it would be different. but it is, my original names user number is 16351. much closer to the team founder at 16327. It would also mean I started before phred15 as his user number is 16353, we could have registered at basicly the same time.

so I guess it means I wish I knew when I started, or at least someone close to my user number. I may have to PM the founder, see when he started the team. I know the original Delphi maxpc FAH site is still there, and I think some of the team still post there but will not come here.

the folding project started the first of October, 2000, so it was sometime after that.

after some research, I think it was in 2001.

Thanks g.m. for the info on the user numbers. I never payed much attention to them. I new the start dates had been reset. Just never figured out why mine shows 3-7-04 when I was folding before July, 03. Maybe I didn't fold at the beginning of 04. Don't remember.

Hey g.m.,

I reckon the true old timers will have been on since Delphi........ which means I'm not a true old timer......... :(

What's the link to the Delphi site?

I'd love to check it out.

g.m.,

It looks like the last MaxPC post at Delphi was 2006 - did I miss something?
