For 2013, it has been recommended that the race begin in April - with a tentative start date of April 20th.

We'd like to get the team captain(s) of racing teams, into the captain's forum as soon as you can, to discuss all the issues and suggestions for this year. This is a handicap race, but the scoring criteria change from year to year. Small and medium sized teams have won the last two CC's.

If you'd like to contact me, I'm at Overclockers.com:

I obviously can't speak for everyone but we could use a good CC to revitalize some of our folding. The problem is contacting the ones that don't visit here anymore (like how I was until recently). This board used to be the means of gathering the troops. . .

So troops. Do we fall in line and fight the good fight or do we stay home and watch the battle on the news?

Adak, have missed you for a few years, but some of the original CC folks still remember how to fling.

Remember that Kingfish is the CC godfather, and I think picked Cinco De Mayo so he could fold and drink tequila at the same time.

I am laughing though. First commercialize the event, then change the date. Next will be the name.

There is no more Chimp Challange. Hasn't been for a year now.

Actually the cage grew legs and walked away. I never got a response from them when I asked for the DB at the very least after then discontinued the service.

Ive pondered reconstructing it but don't see the activity to make it worth it . . . Yet

Fond memories of days gone by.

Cooler weather was the reason for the change. The tequila is still excellent - Lent is over!

Nothing IN the race is commercialized - but some teams have corporate sponsors, of course (like EVGA). What they do will probably always be commercial, since they're a commercial entity. I'm not a huge fan of their commercialization of folding, but I have to admit they have raised a strong team, and folded a boatload of wu's. I loved beating the bijesus out of them in the last CC!

We're trying to add more teams to the race, and settle on a handicap formula everyone likes - maybe have some brackets for it also - one for most raw points - the biggest teams really like this, and one for a handicap based race. Teams could race in either or both brackets, possibly (not decided yet).

This year, we're trying the CC with something entirely new - you race as a team. You don't need to change your folding handle and passkey. I didn't like this at first, but over the years, I warmed up to it. It's great for people with a lot of boxes, and non-local boxes.

The original CC format was great for a race between fairly equal teams or sub-teams, but when you have several teams with wildly different sizes, (EVGA and Tech Power Up for instance), we thought it best to adapt the format.

I believe it is safe to say there is little to no interest amongst our team in participating. The Chimp Challenge, for this team, was friendly competition between two teams who were fairly evenly matched in points production. It was about bragging rights over sub-groups of each of the teams claiming to be the original "monkeys." The format and execution was simple: fold as hard as you can, drink margaritas, and first Chimp to the predetermined number of points won. A side benefit was that it coaxed some extra production out of the teams, folding on machines that didn't normally fold and recruiting friends and family.

A significant percentage of our active folders were here for the first Challenges. What the Challenge has become bears little resemblance to the early years of the competition for those who were here to witness it. The F@H program has changed, with quick return bonuses, GPU folding, BIGADV WUs, etc. The folding landscape has evolved and the CC, especially with the addition of teams whose production varies wildly, has had to change, too. However, a vocal majority of the constituency here is not in favor of many of the changes that have happened in previous years.

At the risk of sounding snarky, I'll throw this out there because I know it will be said here eventually: If one of the proposals is to drop the Chimp names (one of the last remaining traditions of the Challenge), why even call it the Chimp Challenge? At least that and the Cinco de Mayo start date were upheld in previous years. With both of those being thrown out, there is nothing about this race that is "Chimp" anymore.
