Adak, have missed you for a few years, but some of the original CC folks still remember how to fling.
Remember that Kingfish is the CC godfather, and I think picked Cinco De Mayo so he could fold and drink tequila at the same time.
Fond memories of days gone by.
Cooler weather was the reason for the change. The tequila is still excellent - Lent is over!
Nothing IN the race is commercialized - but some teams have corporate sponsors, of course (like EVGA). What they do will probably always be commercial, since they're a commercial entity. I'm not a huge fan of their commercialization of folding, but I have to admit they have raised a strong team, and folded a boatload of wu's. I loved beating the bijesus out of them in the last CC!
We're trying to add more teams to the race, and settle on a handicap formula everyone likes - maybe have some brackets for it also - one for most raw points - the biggest teams really like this, and one for a handicap based race. Teams could race in either or both brackets, possibly (not decided yet).
This year, we're trying the CC with something entirely new - you race as a team. You don't need to change your folding handle and passkey. I didn't like this at first, but over the years, I warmed up to it. It's great for people with a lot of boxes, and non-local boxes.
The original CC format was great for a race between fairly equal teams or sub-teams, but when you have several teams with wildly different sizes, (EVGA and Tech Power Up for instance), we thought it best to adapt the format.
