I have been thinking about upgrading to the GTX 600 series video cards for one of the puters in the Folding Farm.

Anyone folding with the ASUS or MSI versions?

How is the PPD on the 660ti?

Are the 670's worth the extra??

Thanks!

Jedd

I am running 2 EVGA gtx 660 Ti's and getting 36.5K +or- PPD.
also running 1 Zotac gtx 670 and getting 36.4K, but I have seen it run some work units at 38K+.
I don't think the price difference is worth it. It also uses about 20 more watts over the others.
You will need to use the 7.7.9 client to fold with the Kepler core.

my msi 660ti power edition is getting about 37-38000 ppd
my evga 660ti is rocking out around 36-37000 ppd

evga card is using 99-100% available power, where as the MSI is around the 80% mark. Both cards are not oc'd by me, just factory overclocks.

the 2 660ti's, and my FX 8120 cpu are churning out a daily average of 80-85,000 ppd.
pretty much in a dedicated folder at the moment except for occasional web surfing.

cards don't kick off as much heat as i was used to back when i had my gtx470 and i7 setup. doesn't heat up the computer room anymore...almost gotta find the heater thermostat and kick that on to be comfortable in there now. lol

Both cards are folding at maximum stable overclock with 75F room temp. The 660 non-Ti IMO is a better overall value, even though the Ti version gets significantly higher ppd. The non-Ti card runs cooler, was $100 cheaper (when I purchased), & uses less wattage.

Hey, Jedd. As one who purchased two of the EVGA GTX -02G-P4-2670- 670 video cards, I could'nt recommend it for folding at this time. If I remember right, there was not a client that would work with it at all before a few weeks prior to my purchasing it. Or maybe I was having buyer's remorse and became delirious. I did'nt know any of the problems with it not folding until after the fact. Then, I lucked out and Stanford tweaked something on the clients so it would fold. Where this card would shine, I believe, might be with clients with more Kepler oriented work. All that being said, I have nothing but praise for the 670 as far as gaming, being very stable, comparatively cool under load and supposedly not as hungry for kilowatts as other cards in it's class. I'm sorry I don't have info on the 660ti , as I run right to the 670 and for now, anyway, am not recouping as much as most cards for the $ spent, as far as PPD. The 670 does fold well, but I cannot justify the price-tag as a folder and would choose something else (maybe the 660ti), were I in the market for a folding card today.

I know we're all about the Maximum PC here.... but let me throw in my two cents on the subject.

Lots of us have systems that are five or more years old - and are just not up to the rigors of Folding anymore.

I took one of those systems and installed an EVGA 01G-P4-2650-KR GeForce GTX 650. Right now they are $100 after rebate at Newegg (and come with Assassin's Creed III).

So, for a pretty minor investment.. that card is putting out 11,200 PPD on the version 7 Folding client. For a whole bunch of people on our team.... that would more than double their daily output - without breaking the bank.
