Okay guys, it's time to stop fooling around. The Tech Report is approaching quickly, if we do nothing we will loose our precious rank of #8, personnally, I feel that #7 would be a better number, so here's the plan.

I did the math. Team Rage 3d is our target, they have 62,356 points per day. There is a 2,617,997 point gap between us. If we want to do this in a year, then we have 365 days, thus our formula is as follows:

365x - 62,356(365) = 2,617,997 Where x is how many points per day we need to close the 2,617,997 point gap in one year.

So, multipliying 62,356 by 365days, we get 2,275,990 more points that they will have in one year then they have now.

So, adding that to the 2,617,997 we get 4,893,987 points that we have to fold in one year.

Dividing that by 365 we get 13,408 points per day. Now, I agree, that is a lot of points. But think of it this way, it's only a 23% increase in our current production. Also, you can think of it as adding 134 new CPUs, if the average CPU folds at 100 points per day.

At the very least, we can stave off The Tech Report from knocking us off our beloved #8 position.

I figure, if we can get about 25 dedicated users, each producing 250 points per day, and 100 more of your average users, each producing an average of 75 points per day, then we could do it.

So tell your friends, tell your family, the goal is set for one year. Even if The Tech Report should pass us up, at least we can keep Team Rage 3d from taking our beloved #8 position.

You just reminded of a related suggestion I wanted to run by [Ch]ams. I thought it would be a good idea to enable sigs for team members to post the one DaBrain made. By doing so, we could generate some curiousity in the flux of new members that pass by and spark some interest in those who have no idea what folding is.

We should make it a pre-requisite for membership on this board

Yeah, that's a great idea. I don't have the time to keep on pasting that sig onto each of my posts, an automated sig would be a big improvement.

That would be cool, but I doubt the folks at MPC would go for it.

Also, there would be no way to make sure that all of the MPC forum members were actually folding.

But it does bring up a good point. There is no reason why members shouldn't fold. It only uses unused cycles.

I think we need to make sticky posts in each of the boards like Hardware Haven, The Free Clinic, and the Lifestlye Lounge, about what the MPC F@H team is, what it's goals are, and how to get involved.

That should surely bring in new members.

Just took another look at that page. Seems that The Tech Report is making an 18,579 points per day gain on us.

If we could get another 13,000 points per day, not only would we pass Team Rage 3d in a year, but it would take the Tech Report a lot longer to reach us. Think about it, they would only be gaining on us at 5,500 points per day. At that rate it would take 720 days to catch up to us, that means we could delay them by a year.

Unfortunatley, that's only if we were to add the 13,000 points per day now, today. The longer we take to get up that extra 23% increase, the sooner they will catch up to us.

The current date is March 1st 2005. That is the day we will become number 9 if nothing is done.

We need to implement some of the above changes. We have 1140 active members, and only about 400 active folders. We can do better than that. Even folding with only half our registered users would pull us up over Team Rage 3d in less than a year.

i used to be averaging just over 150 a day, then my friend moved and his comp has been offline and my 1600+ system just died

How did it "die"? Did the PSU blow and take everything with it?

Now may be a good time to upgrade anyway. I mean, if you were averaging 150 a day with two computers, it's time for an upgrade. I've been going at 120 a day with only one computer.

My computer was cheap, here's what I have.

AMD Barton 2500+ w/333mhz fsb. This is under my Speeze WhisperRock II HSF overclocked to 3200+ at 49C CPU and 32C Case, with ambient temps around 25C. The CPU will cost ya about $75, the HSF about $10.

Abit NF7-S Mobo, but you should get the NF7-S2. Only $69, comes with Firewire, SATA, and SoundStorm!

512mb PC 3200 Mushkin DDR 400. $78 You may just be able to salvage your old stuff, but if it's less than DDR 333 you may just want to forget it.

The total cost is $144 to $238 depending on whether or not you need the RAM or the HSF.

the PSU blew on it, i believe my highest average was 192 a day, i just get a lot of high point ones that take a while to fold

ok, just added my primary computer to folding under the name JCSNIPER. 2 Computers, one at about 100% all the time.

I just sent Chams a message asking if he know someone who could write a program on a cd that would autorun and install folding setting our team to default and only asking for a user name. THis would make it a lot easier for people to installl. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and I am going to print off some information from the stanford site about folding. Maybe we could get some interest going this way.
