This may help. It's an excerpt from a thread in Harlam's Google group. Like DocJonz, I'd prefer a Dummies guide.

I've installed the new HFM.NET and added all the v6 clients quite
happily, but have a few questions regarding adding the v7 ones.
Assume that I have two PC's - PC1 (WinXP) and PC2 (Linux - Ubuntu),
both using the default Folding directories.
I made a share on PC1 to 'user', for example, and then tried;
//PC1/user/Application Data/FAHClient
but this didn't work. Am I barking up the wrong tree? I didn't want to
use the IP address as these are dynamic.
Similarly, on the Linux machine, the Folding files appear to be
installed in /usr/bin/, but this area doesn't like to be shared (I'm
assuming I need to share it first?).
Do you have a dummies guide for doing this sort of thing?!

RE: [hfm-net] Monitoring v7 Clients
Try adding the client using the netbios name, you don't use shared folders
as HFM.net uses the client remote interface exclusively.

Re: [hfm-net] Monitoring v7 Clients
Hi Doc,
Sorry, no dummies guide. We're all smart people, we don't need
dummies guides.

Marvin is correct. All you need is the hostname or IP address, port,
and password (if applicable). Also, you'll likely need to allow
access for remote connections for each v7 client. By default the v7
client allows connections from the local machine only. When opening
FAHControl on each v7 client you'll need to allow connections from IPs
other than 127.0.0.1 (loopback). Go to the client configuration in
FAHControl and then the "Remote Access" (can't remember if that's
exactly right off hand) tab. The easiest thing to do is add access
for your entire subnet. In my case this is "192.168.0.0/24". Adjust
accordingly for yours.
Kind Regards,
-H
