Is there any benefit in upgrading the folding client when it runs as a system service from version 6.34 to the new version 7?

I do not see any compelling reason to upgrade a system service install at this point. The same WUs are available to both AFIK. The main functional difference is V7.x can pre-download the next WU and queue it up for a quicker transition from one to the next. The effect on bonus points will vary, since the bonus is calculated on download time, not the start of crunching.

thanks for reply, will save me a lot of work, sitting on gigabit lines dont think download/upload time is a bottleneck.

When installing on fresh images or new PC i should perhaps go for version 7 then, its just that i think its easier to set appropriate flags etc with version 6, maybe its an easier way of doing it with version 7 than to enter the GUI and add additional flags like max_packet_size big ?

I'm with you. There's a little bit of a learning curve with the console, but it doesn't take long and you're running like a pro.
When I tried it, I found the v7 GUI to be clunky and think that it actually takes longer to do things than console once you reach that familiarity.

Also, I prefer the service option, as it prevents the family from messing any of it up.

So run V7 as a service.

And once it's configured, you never mess with it anyway, so who cares about a so called clunky gui. It's set and forget anyway.

You'll want to upgrade when it's convenient, not when you have to. Sooner is better than later. ;)
