Dr. Pande got back to me yesterday and said he hopes to give us the exact addresses we want. If not he may have to go something like:

gsmitheman-fah.stanford.edu

or similar. He also said he is waiting to purchase the servers because apparently 4Tb drives are getting ready to come out and he wants those in them. I'm sure that is fine with all concerned.

Found this post from October 01 on the Stanford Forums here - asking about the status of the server in memory of Gordon and his wife Rose.

From Dr. Pande
"We're waiting on receipt, but it should be soon (the PO went out 2 months ago and it usually takes Stanford about a month to do purchasing of major equipment due to the need for outside quotes and about a month for us to get it). We're really grateful for this and planned to make a major blog post about it once everything is set up."

Sounds like the Smitheman server should be up and running in the near future.

Funny you should ask g.m. - I emailed Dr Pande today asking about the server.

His reply:

Quote:
Hi,

Yes, the servers are in and should be ready. I've asked the web/blog team to write something and time a blog post & release, but I think they got delayed with the latest movie/website/client release.

By the way, do you have any pictures or words you'd like to share with us for the blog post? I'd like to share their memory with the whole FAH community as a part of this donation and special memorial.

Regards,

Vijay Pande

I emailed him back asking him for an appropriate email address for sending comments and photos. (so we didn't just blast his main email address with all this stuff)

Gordon Smitheman was a / if not the, driving force in our folding group. Gordon was always there to listen when someone needed to bounce an idea or just for simple talk. Gordon was selfless and a guy one could depend on to champion and be thinking always of ways to making our love of folding fun and interesting. I myself may have dropped out, if not for our friend. And mostly, Gordon you had to leave far too soon to be with your beloved Rose.

Be seeing you.

Jack

Thanks for posting Jack, I to was giving up on the site (not folding) when Gordon joined us. He brought a lot of interest from new people and kept some of us older ones here.

^^Well said. If I were to add anything, it would be the understanding Rose must have had regarding the project. The countless hours Gordon spent generating interest at this forum and reaching out to other teams could not have been done without taking time away from his family, especially Rose. The project and all of us were beneficiaries of his passion and her patience.
