First let me say that I'm a looong time lurker here and want to thank you for all your help. I've always found a post that answered my question perfectly. Everyone here is always so friendly and supportive that I want to thank you in advance for answering this for me.

I recently finished building a new i7 rig to replace my aging P4. I'm now using a SSD for the operating system and a HDD for storage. I'm trying to keep writes to the SSD to a minimum and have read on here that SSD's don't like folding. What I'm wondering is, if I install the v7 client on the storage drive, say F:/FAH/, will it only write to that drive? or will it continue to thrash the C: drive while running calculations? I haven't been able to find much on folding with SSD's.

Again, thank you in advance for your time.

My new system:
ASRock Z68 PRO3
i7-2600K 3.4 GHz
CM Hyper 212+
4x4GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
EVGA GTX570
Corsair 750W Power Supply
Intel 510 series 120GB SSD
WD 1TB HDD

You can move F@H page files to a secondary hard drive. Here's some easy directions if you happen to be using a gpu sys client....

If not, alter the steps to fit your particular application.

Wow! Thanks. I'll have to bookmark this and give it a thorough read. Unfortunately my free time is rather limited right now. Stupid work making me do work type stuff :(

Hopefully I'll get it running within the next few days. Thank you.

Yeah, it's not difficult. Essentially these directions will guide you through an install, you'll be copy and pasting directories to your secondary drive, and then simply deleting the original directories from the system disk. You could also manually build the directories if you wanted to. Either way it will cut down on read/writes to the SSD.

If you really want to baby the drive, invest in more RAM while prices are low, and disable the Windows page file completely. There are a number of programs that you can use to create a RAM drive, and direct your cache to it instead of the SSD.

Good luck!

Another option is to use the fah GPU Tracker which runs the clients out of whatever folder you put it in. Just put it on the HDD, start it, and watch it configure the folders and clients for you. (once you put in things like Username, Team, Passkey, etc.)
