CPU Intel Quad Core Q8400

Intel MB P43

RAM Crucial 4x2=8GB DDR2
DVD +/- Burner
HardDrive Seagate 1.5TB
Video ATI HD4870 512MB 256BIT DDR5

Case ANTEC NINE HUNDRED GAMER

Power supply NSPIRE 750W

Vista Ultimate 64-bit with Windows 7 upgrade
$1407.25

I received this quote from a "friend" of the family. I feel he is more worried about keeping us coming back for a new comp in 2yrs or less because of the phasing out of the 775 socket than actually giving a decent upgrade path. Am I just being paranoid?

My mother doesn't completely trust my judgment that is wasteful to dump 1400 bucks on an already almost outdated comp with i5/i7's out now. Not to mention the $99 quad out by amd. Please share your collective wisdom with me.

You can actually build a really nice COre i7 rig for that, man, no joke. If you pay that for that machine, he is taking you to the cleaners. Don't do it!

System could be built around $800, and would kick ass for you if you've never experienced a good ole C2Q...but, if they're overcharging, so unless they're a relative that you think needs some money to keep kids fed...then you should tell him to lower the price, or shop elsewhere....or offer you a lifetime warranty with tech support. That might be worth the $600 difference.

$800? no way, I built a rig with a Q9300, P45 DDR3 mobo and 4870 1GB when all that stuff was brand-spanking new, only paid $900 for it, no OS. Add an OS, still $1000. The way prices have dropped you can probably build that for $700.

If were in a price war, I could do it for 700 :D

EDIT: 740,+shipping-rebates!=~690-700, depending on where you live.

Note, I changed the case, 'cus the Beta looks cool, and the RAM, 'cus no one would want that much. There is no use for it unless you are editing video, and thats not gona happen on a 700 pc!
