Hey allmighty appraisers! I just built my first rig (the thing is awesome, I'd post pics but I'm not happy with the wiring just yet - stupid PATA cables...) and I'm going to sell it to my newly married sister and brother in law who are still using an old (and by old I mean OLD) Compaq Celey 500 Mhz. I told them that I'd sell them the old Dell and they could just replace the things I salvaged.

I took out my:
9800 Pro
Hard Drives
Optical Drives
Sound Blaster Audigy 2

I'll put back in:
Old MX440 64MB
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
1 GB memory (leftover)

They are going to use the optical drives from the old machine so basically all they need to put into it is a hard drive and OS. So, what's a fair asking price for the stuff they are getting from me? Thanks everybody!

Dude, it's your sister. We can't give you a fair price because we don't know how your relationship is with her.

Give her a good deal on it and wish her a happy marriage.

That's the thing. I have no idea what a good deal is. It's not like I was going to try and rip them off or anything!

Oh. Duh. It's a P4 2.6 Ghz w/800 Mhz FSB. Besides the things I already listed as being put back in by myself, it's just the CPU, heatsink/fan, floppy drive, mobo, and case.

Family/friends prices are tough to estimate. One of my sisters, I wouldn't giver her the time of day without making her pay upfront for it. Another sister, I'd hand her the shirt off my back. So I guess the deciding criteria is: How much do you like your sister and her husband?

If you like her a lot and her husband is a good fella and you aren't hurting for bucks...(*shrug*) sell it to them for $100 or so.

If you want to get something that reflects the approximate value, go for around $300

In that case, go for 200. Dorks can fork over an extra 100.

Yeah, that MX didn't last me too long. It did play Medal of Honor surprisingly well though. It'll be fine for the casual emailing and stuff they'll do. Thanks to everyone for giving me something to go on, I really had no idea where to even start. Thanks again!

Is your sister a good cook? I usually work on my sister's PC (my nephews are forever doing something to the PC to corrupt the OS), and she pays me with a good dinner, or some good homemade baking. Usually with family I try and do trade offs instead of asking for cash....depending on how well you get along with your family.

Good cook, no. 21, yes. In my situation, things like that usually work out pretty well! We'll have to see.
