Maximum PC

hey guys,
how about an upgrade path for my venerable P4
I have an ASUS P4C800
P4 2.53
1GB of PC2700 in 2x 512 modules
MSI Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200 (agp8x)
2 Seagate Sata 80Gb 8mg cache barracudas in raid 0 (dumb cause I have no back-up...)
HP DVD writer 200i
antec 480w true blue PSU
and a case from a moder that keeps falling apart (sniff...)

I have 3 requirements
A)I want to FOld to high heaven adn this PC isn't crunching well team #34025
B)I need a dual display card (one CRT and a Samsung syncmaster 151N)
C)THis computer acts a 10K mp3 server through the house (6PC network)

I run XP pro.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

P.S. I had an awful story with an MSI mobo and after 3 returns I just gave up and never got a refund SO please NO MSI in my system ever again!

for you comp you could sell it for about 300 or 400. as for you building question put it in the free clinic or in hardware haven. and as for your MSI problem i'm in love with MSI and have yet to have ONE gripe. but i guess theres a certain bit of luck in that.

try 36097 soon to be sub one thousand with only 2 members... i wish i had joins the MPC team though, and i would but i dont have access to all the computers i have folding grandpa, cousin, winter job so i cant change the team numbers

It's funny they call it folding@home because for two members you sure got alot of computers at home!
Now if you called like everybody else: Googles(or isthat giggles?) the french connection, etc... maybe...
as for my little team 34025, like a sugarcone at the table of the super crunching teams, I'll eek out the WUs I can.
I Don't have lofty expectations, below 3K this xmas and 2K next xmas!

well my friend (the slower team member) simply has his and his bro's computers, and myself i have like 7 but only 2 of them fold non stop and only one of them is of decent speed. its all about endurance. leave your comp on 24/7 and if your good buddy has a comp put it on his convince him to fold too tell him the good cause and before you know it when you broke the thousand mark in team ranking.

I would say, sell the 2.53 P4B and PC2700. Then get a P4C (800Mhz FSB) and PC3200. If you can, get some faster RAM (like PC4000) and you'll be able to OC the P4C. 2.4 P4C's at 3+Ghz isn't uncommon.

Where were you about a week ago. I was looking for a P4B. Out of curiousity, how much would you let it go for?
