One of my friends has an HP Mini netbook (with the hard drive and I think 1GB of RAM, WinXP) he's selling. He said he'd sell it to me for $100 (it's almost 2 years old, but in good condition).

Is this worth $100 (I know new ones are still going for $200+).

I figured this would be a spare portable computer I can keep around for if people visit, to test websites/software, etc. (I already have a primary laptop I use for things when on the go, but I figured that an extra computer might come in handy at times). Basically, is it worth $100? I think it has the Atom N270 chip, which is the hyperthreaded 1.6 GHz version of the Atom.

i would grab it for $100 is the batter still good?

i have a acer A110L which i got in 2008 (when it came out 2nd week) it still is basically as fast as most all the netbooks out there (sort of sadly..but the netbook specs haven't really got much progress..except maybe a few amd E350 ones now).

my a110 is good for the stuff you describe i have travelled a bunch with my netbook i really love the little bastard.

I have had to fix my acer several times had to take it apart to fix failed orig SSD (replaced with supertalent SSD a year and a half ago upgraded ram at that time also) then had to take it about about a year ago cause the cpu fan bound up freed it fine since.

i also had to get a replacement battery off ebay cause the orig one didn't last long to begin with them started going altogether after about 1.5yrs of use.

I think the hard drive may only be 160GB, but I think it can be upgraded. I'm not 100% sure of the model number. Is there a big difference between model numbers. It's got the Atom 270 processor and a 1.01" screen with 1GB of RAM. Is there much variation beyond that?

well there might be some of the HP netbooks had/have the ion chipset which would provide much more robust video capabilities
