My suggestion is to get rid of the "comment" section on the news articles. Instead, redirect comments to a new sub-forum here that is exclusively for news article feedback. Hopefully the forum message thread would have a link back to the original article.

Several reasons for this.
1. News articles scroll too quickly off the first page and many (most?) people don't scroll through various pages of articles. As such, what people don't see, they don't comment on, and comments about any given article die off quickly.
2. I see some spam on some of the comments. I imagine it would be easier to control such things here on the forums.
3. Articles would have greater visibility since forum topics are in view a lot longer.
4. Links back to article would allow folks to have easier access to articles that interest them.

That has been addressed. Yesterday in fact. If you see spam in a comment, feel free to link to it in the forum/website feedback section.

I actually like this idea, stories on the main page get buried far too quickly. having a subforum for them would be much better

I like the idea too and have always wondered why they don't Two logins and not being authorized to logout probably has something to do with it. There seems to be a big disconnect someplace.

They're probably trying to protect folks from us or something

Even if it just consists of posting individual new threads on each of the stories. I don't venture much on the main maximumpc.com page.

It's not going to happen. I don't want to add anymore work for the news posters, and the comments on the front page serve that purpose just fine. If you want to continue chatting about a topic, just bookmark the thread and come back. The stuff that ends up in the popular column frequently have a robust conversation around them, for as long as a week.

The conversations about news posts don't need to be permanent.
