on some forums, you click quick respond, and then it doesn`t load another page, the bottom just expands, and there is a box for a response. i think this would be a cool feature update to add to the forum.

I've seen this on many other forums. It's quite convenient. But it simply depends on the forum software and the owner's/webmaster's wishes.

Is this like Expert's Exchange, except free?

I don't see the point in hiding everything past post #1, except just to hide it for the sake of hiding it.

The problem I see with it on a forum like this, is that many people would too quickly reply to the original post without reading the entire thread in it's context. This is more than a place for Question=Answer; it's a forum with discussion...meat in the middle matters more than the bun's at each end :D

Very valid point, except the quick relpy is at the bottom of the page. It is just a box that you type into and then hit submit.

Really, all it does is save you one click.

We used to have one, but then pull pulled the plug because the Future server admins where getting pissed because of the amount of addons that had to be maintained for the forum, and because he says it induces shit posts.

Yeah, the signal to noise ratio improved measuredly when we pulled Quick Response. If what you're going to say isn't worth the time it takes to load a page, it's probably not worth posting.
