As a subscriber to Maximum PC for nearly a decade, I can say that I was disappointed but then excited by "Best of the Best" being stripped from the mag and online only with the promise of more frequent updates.
I know for me it was the page I turned to first every month, that and Rig of the Month.

I am sure this has been lamented before, but I am now disappointed by virtually all of the sections of Best of the Best, mostly by the fact that updates have been infrequent or even non-existent.

I no longer turn to Best of the Best for hardware to design a system around when money is no object...or rather for when the day in the future comes that those parts are within my grasp. With most of the list now being nearly a year old, and far from Best of the Best, I would ask Maximum PC to just simply declare it a relic and retire it before it resembles Michael Jordan playing for the Wizards, it is just sad.

Thanks for reading and please keep the great front page news reporting rolling in!

The thing that I don't like is that the best of the best has no links. There should be a link to a review on each of the best of the best products. I end up having to copy and paste the product into google and looking up benchmarks and reviews other places. If the editors have tried a product and they think that is the best, then they should right a review.

If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. :P

I don't completely agree with you Vistageek. I am fine with just a listing, heck that was all we got in the old paper version. I think it would be wise to continue to drive users to deeper clicks and longer sessions on the maximumpc.com website but that is a totally different issue.

One problem is that online reviews can quickly become dated. A product that destroys competitors in benchmarks will score very high .. until a new product comes out to defeat it.

Some features garner high scores because they are new and unprecedented. Once those features become mainstream, they produce a lower score.

Having said that, those products that have a review on the site are linked to it .. not all of the products in the list have an online review available.

If they take it out of the zine and at the same time tell you how great the online version will be, they should at least update it say, once every two weeks or even once a month.

We all know about Google and I know where to go for current reviews, skuttlebut, articles, rumors, etc. but I only wish I had lots of spare time to kick back and read them at my leisure.

After reading MPC since it was boot, I trust these guys but this time they let me down. Based on the AMD motherbd recommendation, I bought it. It's not quite a turkey but 2 seconds after I bought it I find out there is a new southbridge already out for the chipset.

I like that you MPC guys (and gals) have gone to a lot of trouble to spiff up the site but get on that Best of the Best section!

Why? Do you think that the products change that quickly?

How about asking them to change the products if and when something better comes along. That makes sense.

Asking them to change it every two weeks forces them to choose new products that are not necessarily as good as those already posted just for the novelty. That doesn't make sense.

I didn't mean they should change the Best of the Best picks every two weeks for the sake of changing the picks. I meant that they should update it if need be every two weeks or even once a month. Ok?
