Anybody noticing the increase of flame wars?

There's one in the Multimedia Madhouse forum and a thread in that forum that got garetjax banned for 14 days. Couple in the LL because some noobs (and some experienced) people can't control themselves, then they start to flame each other.

I'm working with colby and some mods (mostly colby) to end these flame wars and/or lock/delete threads.

I have not seen an actual flame war in any folder since last year. Are you sure you even know what a flame war is?

Generally, in the LL, such things are allowed as long as they don't get to rough.

Outside of there things should be a bit more respectful.

OTOH - sometimes folks get into it and its best to see if they work it out IMO. As long as its not too far out of line and disparaging others.

I'm sure the mods don't mind you bringing "hot" threads to thier attention.

You used the same word to describe it.

So if I say that you're a buffoon because there has not been a real flame war here since 2005, I'm flaming you?

Usually started by a Flamer, a person who, on a message forum of some type, attacks and flames other members of the forum for any of a number of reasons. A real Flamer usually attacks threads because he/she disagrees with the content of the thread or the lack thereof. The difference between a Flamer and somebody who merely disagrees is that a flamer is inappropriate in their responces.

They must not be confused with Trolls.

Trolls are people who flame the posters themselves, they flame because of rank, previous disagreements, sex, status, ect.

RandomNewbie: Lyke, Im all for aborshun an stuff, butt I dont like et wen da baybez dye.

Flamer: Pssh, that's stupid, you obviously know nothing of abortion, idiot.

Troll: OMG! Why don't you learn how to spell you stupid f***ing newbie!?!

Thank you. I think I'm familiar with the terminology. :D

The discussion is not about Flamers. We have a ton of members that live in San Francisco already. The comment was on 'Flame Wars'.

"Is it just you or does this guy seem to babble on and on without making any sense whatsoever? Does he lurch from one non sequitur to another? Are you baffled by his obscure metaphors? Are there so many typos you think that maybe he was typing while wearing a catcher's mit? Can he really MEAN what he just said? What in the hell is hey talking about, anyway? Is this guy smoking something? Well, yes...in fact he is, and lightly tethered in orbit high above the Earth Bong remains far beyond the grasp of the even the most powerful of Warriors. "

" In the beginning, before bandwidth, there was nothingness. Out of that endless void God and His heavenly host created...Arpanet, and it was good. But the scientific, military and computer angels Who dwelled in Arpanet were lonely, so They brought forth Browser, and the Web was born. It, too, was good and the children of the internet lived in peace and harmony and were fruitful and multiplied, but God warned His people not to eat of the forbidden fruit of commercialism. Alas, they disobeyed and soon barbarians drove the children of the internet out of Paradise. God, in His wrath, turned away from His people and condemned them to wander in the digital wilderness, but from time to time He will suddenly appear in mailing lists, chat rooms and discussion forums to remind us sinners that we could be saved if only we would hearken unto Him."
