I see a prominent link at the top of your website. "Best of the Best" it says. Either update it, or take it down, please. The top rated processor is deactivated. There isn't even a 1155 motherboard listed. The "mid-range" proc is what you used in your Dream Machine (wouldn't that make it a high-end proc? Maybe? Maybe not). No category for case, CDROM, OS, etc.

Is there actually a comprehensive list anywhere? What I'd expect is to come to the 'Best of the Best' list and be able to build a rig. Power supply, OS, CDROM, proc, memory, mobo, case. I know you guys do a lot of reviews. Is it really that hard to maintain the list?? You have some of it in your magazine. Just copy it over and link to the review!

CDROM? How old is this post?

I think we should just create a "Best of the Best needs updating" sticky ... the topic comes up often enough to merit a permanent thread.

C'mon, I was making a joke.

BTW, I have an Onstream tape drive. Frigging rocks. I haven't tried running it on Win 7 tho. Missing PATA ports on the mobo. Dang.

Actually, yes. Are you serious, or just trolling? I could trade you a couple SCSI plextor CDROM drives I don't have a use for anymore.

So, getting back on topic, is MaxPC going to update their BotB or is this forum just an exercise in futility?

Now why would anyone have ever needed CDROM drives on an interface as fast as SCSI?

As far as the Best of the Best list goes, I imagine the MaxPC staff is inundated with the same overwhelming workload that we all are these days. How to do more work with less employees seems to be the new American way. It's hard to hold them accountable for every little detail.

To be completely honest, I don't think that MaxPC is the best place for a Best of the Best list anyway. A monthly periodical and the accompanying website is not really geared toward real time tech updates. It's more apt to offer reviews, opinions, benchmarks, tips, and entertainment. The forum is a bit more equipped to handle inquiries of that nature, but if you really want to be briefed on the latest and greatest gear, you'd need to spend the 29 days between issues trolling tech sites, review sites, and e-tailers.

How long as the LGA1155 platform been available?

Also, I seriously doubt (but could be wrong) that the staff of Max PC actually maintains the website. This is something that I would have farmed out to a company that specializes in such things. I don't think MaxPC staff are a bunch of web programmers, do you?

Send an email to webhost/webprogramming/website-maintaining-company: "Hey, we just crowned a new best of the best 1155 motherboard. Please post this article with the included text, and update the Best of the Best list to point to this review".

Done. :/

They've already done the hard work of writing the review, testing the hardware, etc. How hard is it to update a link?

If you're not going to maintain it, take it the heck off the site and just post it in the magazine.

Think of the Best of the Best list like a video game port. It exists in the mag, and is ported to the site. I'm not saying it couldn't stand an update, just sympathizing with the fact that it is a lower priority that periodical product reviews. Even if there was an update between issues, there's a good chance that it would be obsolete in 30 days. The best option here for real time, detailed, product performance is still tech sites.

It is so out of date that it is crazy.
Since they are trying to build up the online following having a prominent link right on the front page to such an absurd embarrassment as this outdated "Best of the Best" will cause movement in the opposite direction, will push people away from MaxPC, online and in print.

I have to agree that if they want to build up an online following... YOU SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING WORTH FOLLOWING. To be totally honest the whole reason I was ever a subscriber to the magazine was for their Best of the Best list in the mag for whenever I was getting the itch to upgrade something. I could look at what MaxPC recommended and at the very least have a starting point to do some research if I didn't just make my purchase right off the review.

I still love you MaxPC... why do you treat me so badly?

Yeah... I have to say that this section is the best, as for those who are just jumping onto the computer bandwagon it is a huge help to be able to see just what the current glass ceiling is. If my current knowledge was reversed two months I truly wouldnt know that the "Intel 3.33GHz Core i7 980x" is no longer the current king and it is now the i7-3960X with the i7-3930K close behind for $500 less. I just love how they have three Bests for each category, including "Sweet Spot" and "Low Budget."

In addition to the recent SandyBridge-E upgrate to hexacore, it seems that perhaps the GPU's could use and update. They list the "Price No Objective" best of the best GPU as the GT 590, but the link below seems to indicate otherwise. Is this a singular GPU test that shows a different story than other tests, or is it pretty accurate? If so may I reccomend that the GT 580 be top dog, Radeon 6950 be "Sweet Spot", and either the Radeon 6850 or 4890 as the lower end cards?

I have to say that I have been reading MaximumPC regularly for some time now and have to thank you all for your services!
