Maximum PC

I finally broke down and bought ATI Radeon X800 XT PCI Express video card on eBay. Put it in and I get an error message that I need to hook up the power. The connector is something I never have seen before, it is some new 6-pin connector and I have been unable to find a converter for it. http://www.driverheaven.net/ just hotwired it is that what you all have done, who have this card? There is also an option in Bios to send more voltage is this safer or more dangerous?

Do not mess with the voltages in the bios unless you KNOW what you are doing.

It is not a regular molex connector or floppy power connector. This is the pci express card not to agp card.

But im having trouble finding ends to crimp on. And I can't pull the ends out of a molex connector.

PCIE is a new standard that also brings along this new connector. Since you have a PCIE motherboard, have you noticed the 24-pin connector on it as well? At any rate, new power supplies come with both the 6-pin and 24-pin connections...or at least adapters. The seller should have given you this adapter as it comes with the card. Oh well...that's ebay!

Don't hardwire it...find the adapter. And DON'T up the PCIE bus voltage or the bus voltage to the card. It does nothing to get it running. I haven't even found that setting useful for clocking the cards...only harm thus far.

What did ya pay, if I may ask? I'm really curious as to what ebay has these for. I need one pretty bad as I'm chugging along with an x600 and still waiting for them to allow me a wider selection.

Ditto on that. I've been searching hi and low for an x800 pci-e. I'm trying to get the parts together for my own stripped down version of the DM2004. Zipzoomfly has one from ASUS listed - out of stock, but they want $849 for it!

I think that's too much. MaxPC put its cost at $500 for the one in the DM2004. Damn that "Supply and Demand" rule.

I bought this card for $650. I bought a Y-Spilter and got the pins out of the connector and connected the black to the top right and the yellow to the bottom left and works like a charm. This person bought a Dell PC and Im assuming that the Dell's have one of the new power supplies.
