 Post subject: Has anyone used the Trade-up program from ATI?

How did it go? Do you buy the card and return and do you get the price of the original card or just 50$ dollars? I'm thinking of using it to get a new card.

the way i understand it is that you get 50.00 on a trade in, they send the new one, you send the old one, they send a check.

Depending on the card you are trading in, it might be a good deal.

If it's an older card, it's probably worth it.

If it's a newer card, you should sell it on ebay or to someone else.

iv looked at it really quickly, and i thought you only got like 50$ for 9800pro trade in...could be wrong though

yea i think you can only trade in more recent cards like 9800 series, maybe i read it wrong?

You read it wrong. They write:

"ATI's trade-up program allows you to upgrade your existing graphic card, no matter who made it[...]"

You can trade in any video card, but the offer is limited to RECEIVING a 9800 Pro based card (or 9600XT AIW) in return.

and not all cards can receive $50 right? i just sold a Radeon 9000 non-Pro for $30 on eBay.

and another issue with this trade-in program is that the ATI shop have everything at MSRP, which is way marked up.

I see nothing in there that indicates all cards NOT getting a $50 credit. To me, the wording is clear, "upgrade your existing graphic card, no matter who made it[...]"

They do markup their cards somewhat, but it's not a bad deal for someone with an older card and wanting a retail ATI branded 9800 Pro. After the credit, it comes to $199, or $249 for the 256mb version.

Man, I should send them in my origional 3DFX Voodoo card or the first PCI AIW card with 8MB of video memory and see if they'll honor the offer :lol:

why not just buy video cards less than $20 and trade them up?

what's the point? you send the card in and buy a 9800 PRO for...$200. you can get it for that price anywhere now w/o buying a $20 video card in the first place.
