According to Tom's hardware, ID and other various online sites, you need a 512Mb video card to enjoy Doom 3 at its highest quality settings with nothing being scaled back...A.K.A Ultra Quality

When will 512Mb video cards be released? I didn't think that would happen for a year or so but I'm guessing we'll see a 512Mb video card before the end of this year since Doom 3 requires it for Ultra Quality.

I remember the good old days with 32Mb video cards...hehe....time's are changing fast. Soon graphic cards will have more memory then most peoples computers.

Well.. There IS that dual nVidia 6800 Ultra PCI-E setup in the new issue of MPC. I'm not sure if that works but I think it should

256 times 2 is 512 after all.

I'm sure with PCI-E we'll be seeing some next gen cards real soon.

I don't even have a 128, but I can't wait to see them anyway.

I'm not objecting to it, I'm all for innovation and new products. Just think of the cost for a 512Mb video card though.......

Mind you, ultra quality doesn't add anything to Doom III, it just doesn't compress the textures. AFAICT, there is no appearent difference certainly while playing.

But if you really want a 512MB videocard, your wish has been answered.

Usually, the difference isn't that significant. Keep in mind, there's already a HUGE markup on the card already.

Say the difference is as much as $50... the base model is $500. If you can afford $500, $550 shouldn't be that big of a deal :P
