Maximum PC

Im looking getting a 7970.

Im not sure which "maker" to choose.

I have the chance to get a VisionTek from a friend, still in the box for $30 off.

Basically my question is... is VisionTek a decent company?

Or should I forgo the $30 and get something else?

if it powers on and does what you want then save the 30 smacks. Seams to be little difference between brands anymore.

When it comes to AMD I prefer the brands that have fractured away from playing both nVidia and AMD fields and haven't regretted it one bit. XFX, VisionTek, and Sapphire don't make nVidia cards and all have been pumping out solid parts. It's those that play both sides that I seem to have more issues with.

But I can say one thing: I've never had a problem with an XFX nor eVGA AMD part nor a VisionTek nor Sapphire nVidia part. If you know your video card branding history and know what Sesame Street is; you'll get my slight hint. One has indeed done both in this decade and I still back...for now. (I run VisionTek, Sapphire, eVGA, XFX, Asus, and MSI currently and not brand biased at this time...openly).

I just feel goofy rooting for the ball player that jumps around from the Royals, A's, Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers, Rays, Indians, then shipped to Thailand. Sometimes even Damon...er...video cards are the best when left unfettered with the team that actually supports them; the start. I just don't see team splitters progress very much.

(I'm beating around the bush. The VisionTek 7970 sounds fine if you're saving "just" $30. Better if you can get it down $20 more. Haggle a bit! He wants to upgrade or he broke it. Awesome card man. What's he upgrading to!? Probably downgrading if you ask me and another $20 won't hurt too much.)
