Hi folks,

I may be needing to upgrade my 5870. At start-up the other day the fan was making a very bad vibrating noise. It stopped after about 5 minutes, but we know how this goes...

What is a good, cheap, upgrade for performance?

If you want to just replace the part, a Radeon HD 7850 will set you back $220. Real upgrades start after that.

I recently picked up an XFX 7870 for under $230 off of Newegg.

It's not the fastest but it's fast enough to play Far Cry 3 @ 1920x1200 with everything on max.

7870 or 7970? I can't keep up with all the production. Hell, I don't even know what's on top any more.

7970 will perform better than the 7870, and both will perform better than the 5870...

Yeah, my fan on the 5870 isn't working. I guess 3 years is good for a VC.

The fan on my 5850 started rattling and buzzing, it went away for awhile, but eventually rattled constantly. It was XFX, so I RMA'ed and they replaced the fan. Took about 2 weeks. Does your 5870 have lifetime warranty, or are you just looking for a reason to upgrade? :lol:

Yeah, I'd rather upgrade. More memory, shaders, etc... Should help!
