Subject pretty much says it all.

There is quite a price gap between 1.07 billion colors vs 16.7 million colors. Seeing as the human eye can't even see that many colors, is there really a difference between the 2? Is it really worth getting a 500-800$ 24inch monitor, or are the 200-300$ ones just as good unless you are a graphics designer?

I have also heard the buzz lately of 120hz monitors vs 60hz monitors being better for gaming. Is this true?

the two types of monitors use different lcd panels, I personally dont feel its worth it unless you make a living from it. for gaming the tn panels are much faster and average from 1ms to 5ms depending on the monitor. my son has a Dell with the good panel, and I cant really see much difference between his and mine. i am using mine out of the box, his has a little better color richness, but if i adjusted the color on mine, im sure it would look as good. his was more than three hundred dollars more than mine, but it has a card reader and usb port built in.

I dont think the refresh rate matters unless you have a 3D monitor or use 3D glasses. If it was so great there would be more of them available, it is not a new tech.

Cool thanks, that is the kind of feed back I was looking for :)

I make enough money to easily afford the more expensive monitors, I just can't bring myself to buy one as they do not seem to cater to my overdeveloped sense of pragmatism :)

I do want to upgrade to a nicer 24 or 27 panel in the near future however, I am gaming on a 23incher right now and in call of duty for instance, there is so much screen area that I find it hard to see those small movements! I can't imagine getting a 2560x1600 resolution monitor will help that at all :)
