I know this topic has been debated with a dead cat poked by a dead horse with a 10 foot pole made out of cheese, but the only articles I've seen related to this are a year old or more. The most relatively data has been with the gtx 480 and showed a small 2% drop. I remember seeing links to more recent articles, but completely forgot where they were posted. I just wanted to show a friend of mine that its marginal gains at best for him to spend $$$ on a true 16/16 sli board.

GTX480 pcie scaling

considering there is a whole new generation of video cards available now, the results might change depending on what cards are being used.

True, but since PCIe x16 v3.0 is coming out soon, it'll help with bandwidth issues. But even then, is there any recent articles related to the amount of data being traveled through the pcie pipeline on current hardware using the latest application/software?

it takes 3 high end cards to fill the available bandwidth now, a fourth card is pretty much useless at present. more bandwidth in a new slot may or may not be good thing, depends on the rest of the system also, a raid 0 using SSDs can use up lots of bandwidth, which is one reason the dream machine went with video cards and not super fast storage.

I did not find anything using new generation cards on current busses. all of them were last generation cards etc.

yeah, that's what I figured why nvidia didn't support quad 580's. Even the quad 480's added only marginal frames over tri-sli.
