Since access points aren't allowed and only one cable from the wall is allowed to the rules...

So theoretically I could setup a wifi card in my computer and use it as an access point so I won't have to run a switch and another wire to my ps2?

Since that way if they found out I had wireless it would be about like a laptop not having its wireless shut off? The school can't technically regulate wireless just me using their internet and they can't legally go into my computer and check if I have my computer set to share.

Comments? Ideas?

Why don't you buy a second NIC instead, and use the PC to share the connection with your PS2? A NIC is cheaper, and you aren't breaking any rules because there is only one cable running from the wall to your PC.

I actually have two onboard nic's...
I just don't want cable across the floor. Our dorms is like a rectangle with a living room going east and west then we each have our own room going north and south. So it would be like a 25ft tripping hazard.

Duct tape is your friend. :D

To answer your question ... they can detect wireless activity, but, properly encrypted, that is all. Your call.

Just detecting though isn't a big deal. The school can't regulate the 2.4GHz band since the fcc controls it. I may just get a cable hmmm hmmm.

They can regulate anything they like, actually, while you are living on their property ... especially if you've agreed to abide by their rules.

I say go with the duct tape, you'll get better ping response with it anyway and less interference from cordless phones and microwaves

Actually read that article. You will see what I mean they can't regulate 2.4GHz. I understand by getting on the resnet I'm in a semi violation despite it going through my computer still so hmm...
