This may be a silly question but I am having trouble finding the answer. If I convert an old desktop computer into a NAS, will the power consumption be limited by the software or will it still consume similar power to its use as a desktop computer? I am trying to determine the effect on my power bill. Thanks in advance.

It would most likely run at similar powere requirements like a desktop since I believe most power management is done by the BIOS.

It woul be less though as a nas os uses less computing power.
