Maximum PC

Hey I hope this is the right forum for this,

I just moved into a new house and I would like to be able to access my computer network from most of the rooms in my house.

I don't really want to have to run Ethernet cable through the whole house, so I did some research into using those adapters you can plug into your wall socket and plug and Ethernet cable into, I'll probably be going that route.

I am leery of broadcasting my network wireless, I don't want someone else to have access to it. Maybe I need to do some more research on how to properly protect and monitor a wireless network to make sure that only I have access to it, but for now I have just been turning off the wireless feature on my router.

I don't watch TV, I usually am just streaming videos online. I would like to be able to stream youtube, and other videos that are on my network or from the internet to the various TV's in my house. I want to do this in the easiest, and most economical way possible.

Would that do the job? It only has one review on Newegg, does anyone have a reliable recommendation for a media player? If I could I would like to be able to use a mouse and keyboard with it, but it doesn't look like that is possible with out actually building a media PC.

I would appreciate any insight or suggestions as to how to go about this.

Actually the WD Live Hub is looking pretty good. Just found the Max PC review on it. I might go with something like that.

I have another question. As to using the Ethernet power plug adapters. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a brand you would recommend? Are they all basically the same and I can just go with the cheapest? Or does the performance vary from brand to brand?

I run wireless and the Ethernet over power line (I have netgear powerline products).

the powerline provides better/more reliable bandwidth than the wireless, and they are very easy to setup and use, although the distance they are apart from each other will have a negative affect on their performance.

As for the wireless, use WPA2 and a strong key and you should be ok.
