I want to know how to add a small network to another small net work.
Heres the deal:
I have a wireless home network, with my family computer area being the center of it and that has the DSL line and wireless router, i am trying to set up a small wired network in my room, the only comuter on the familys wireless network is my main computer, i have a few old ones laying around that i want to network, i want to use my main computer with the wireless card in it to be the internet access for my new network

can i do this
and how

what i was thinking:
buying a hub and some cables and setting up a small network in my room and sharing the internet connection from my mian computer

thanks so much

BTW-I want to add the other computers and give them net access so i can get them folding

i don't think you need to buy another hub/switch/router, you just need to program your router to accept 2 different subnet. That is exactly what subnet masks are for (breaking up a network into smaller networks).

you cant have your cake and eat it to. one way or another you have to connect to something. if you already have wireless, the cheapest way to go is refurbished usb keys, i get mine at frys for under 20

exactly, i get them from frys refurbed for 19.00, they are on outpost right now for that price

i would link it but its long.

you would need a router or switch for the second network, and to use your machine as the connectionto the net.

you will have to buy something, i would get 1 wireless key and use it on all the machines, switching to the next one to write, they will be slow folders you will have lots of time. the cheapest is of course sneakernet, manually moving the files to a connected machine to send results.
